A minimally invasive procedure using an endoscope fitted with a high-frequency ultrasound probe to examine the digestive and respiratory systems, including the oesophagus, stomach, pancreas, bile ducts, lymph glands and liver. The procedure can also guide fluid or tissue sampling with a fine needle. Patients should not eat or drink for approximately 8 hours beforehand and may be asked to take a laxative or enema. The procedure usually lasts 20-45 minutes, followed by outpatient recovery of 30 minutes to 2 hours.
