Early Preventive Orthodontic Treatment

at Orthoclinic · Canberra

Details.

Usually starts around age 7 to 9 when there is a mixture of adult and baby teeth. Treatment aims to reduce or eliminate developing orthodontic problems and reduce the need for treatment later. It may use the early growth spurt to make difficult orthodontic problems more manageable. Examples include crossbite correction, traumatic bite correction, space maintenance to prevent impacted adult teeth or progression of space loss and crowding, and correction of protrusive upper incisors to reduce the likelihood of trauma. Most early treatments still require a second phase at the adult dentition stage to achieve the final bite.
