DMEK replaces the damaged Descemet's membrane and endothelium layer with ultra-fine donor tissue secured with a gas bubble. It is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia and typically lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes. Patients with complex anterior segment anatomy, previous retina detachment repair, or glaucoma surgeries may not be candidates.
