Thin, custom-made shells designed to cover the front surface of teeth and improve the appearance of discoloured, chipped, slightly misaligned or misshapen teeth and gaps, particularly on front teeth. The treatment includes an examination, possible x-ray, tooth preparation, mould-taking, a possible temporary veneer, and cementation of the permanent veneer at a second visit. Regular dental checks, brushing and flossing are recommended. Avoid excessive chewing on hard foods or objects, and use a custom-made mouth guard during sport. Veneers cannot be repaired if they break and may require replacement if damaged or if gum recession exposes the margin.
