Dental Sealants

at Dentist on Harbourfront · Toronto

Details.

A thin plastic coating applied to the chewing surfaces of molars, premolars and deep grooves or depressions in teeth to create a smooth, easy-to-clean surface and help protect against decay. Suitable for children, teenagers, adults with tooth surfaces without decay, and occasionally children with cavity-prone baby teeth. The teeth are cleaned, kept dry with cotton, treated with a bonding solution, rinsed and dried, then covered with sealant material that hardens automatically or with a curing light. The process takes a couple of minutes per tooth. Regular dental visits are needed to check for wear and chipping. Proper home care and a balanced diet help extend the life of the sealants.
