Dental implant treatment replaces missing teeth with a titanium threaded post surgically implanted into the jaw bone, followed by attachment of a prosthetic crown. Treatment includes an initial consultation to assess suitability, review of medical conditions, and clinical and x-ray examinations. If there is insufficient bone, a grafting procedure may be recommended. Implant surgery is traditionally performed in two stages: implant placement followed by 4 to 6 months of healing, then exposure of the implant and attachment of an abutment. The patient is then referred to their restorative clinician for crown placement. The required procedure, risks, costs and expected post-operative recovery are outlined for each case.
