Details.
Treatment used to repair a tooth damaged by decay. The decayed portion is removed and the space is filled with restorative material to rebuild the tooth's shape and strength. Fillings help prevent further decay, restore normal function, and reduce sensitivity or discomfort. Available materials include tooth-coloured composite resin, porcelain, and amalgam. The procedure generally uses local anaesthesia and usually takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the size and location of the cavity. After treatment, mild sensitivity or discomfort may occur for a few days. Avoid eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes to an hour after the procedure, and avoid hard foods for a few hours.
