A stent may be implanted if PCI has not been successful in improving blood flow. The procedure is performed at Epworth Hospital with preparation similar to angiography and angioplasty. A small stainless steel mesh tube is guided to the blocked or narrowed coronary artery to realign it. The artery wall heals around the stent, which remains in place to reinforce the artery wall.
