A procedure performed at Epworth Hospital. A stent may be implanted if a PCI has not been successful in improving blood flow. Preparation is similar to angiography and angioplasty. The stent is a small stainless steel mesh tube guided to a blocked or narrowed coronary artery to realign the artery. The artery wall heals around the stent, which remains in place to reinforce the artery wall.
