Corneal Cross-Linking

at Bright Sight Eye Specialists - Dr. Rahul Dubey & Dr Capucine Odouard · Sydney

Details.

An outpatient, minimally invasive treatment for progressive keratoconus and other corneal ectasias. The procedure uses riboflavin vitamin B2 drops and controlled UV-A light to strengthen corneal collagen fibres and stabilise the cornea. It is performed one eye at a time, with epi-off as the gold-standard approach and epi-on as a less invasive alternative. Treatment involves numbing drops, riboflavin soaking, UV-A irradiation, a bandage contact lens, and antibiotic and steroid drops. The procedure takes 60-90 min per eye. Patients may experience pain, grittiness, light sensitivity and hazy vision during recovery. Contacts are generally avoided for 1-3 months, and annual scans and avoidance of eye rubbing are recommended after treatment.
