Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking with Riboflavin

Details.

Treatment for keratoconus using riboflavin eye drops followed by exposure to low-dose ultraviolet A light. Performed under topical anaesthesia. The corneal surface is partially scratched, riboflavin drops are applied for 30 minutes, and the eye is exposed to UVA light for 30 minutes. After treatment, antibiotic drops, a bandage contact lens and an eye shield are used. Oral analgesics are required for the first 1 to 2 days. Follow-up includes visits soon after the procedure, then at one month, three months, six months and one year, followed by annual reviews. Contact lenses may usually be worn again after one month.
