Minor surgical procedure performed under general anaesthesia. The vas deferens is cut, tied off and may be sealed with electrocautery, with the skin closed using absorbable sutures. The procedure takes 20 to 30 minutes. Post-operative care may include avoiding heavy lifting for a week, applying cold packs, wearing snug underwear and resting. Alternative birth control must be used until a semen sample test shows a zero sperm count.
