Cardiac CT creates images of the heart and coronary arteries to detect blockages and narrowing and assess coronary bypass grafts and stents. Most scans take between 30 minutes and 2 hours. Avoid caffeine for 24 hours and fast for 4 hours before the scan. Tell bookings staff if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, or have allergies, especially to iodine. The scan requires injected contrast medium and may also involve medication to slow the heart rate or expand blood vessels. Drink plenty of water after the scan.
