Details.

An examination of the cervix recommended after some positive or abnormal cervical screening test results. It allows a specialist to identify and assess cell changes. The examination usually includes a repeat cervical test, application of dilute acetic acid and possibly iodine dye, and one or two small biopsies if abnormal areas are identified. It may cause discomfort, mild stinging or menstrual-type cramps. The examination lasts five to ten minutes.
