Assistance for legal permanent residents who may be eligible to apply for U.S. citizenship or naturalize after living in the U.S. for 3 or 5 years, if they meet certain requirements. Applicants must pass an English and U.S. civics test. Some individuals who have been legal permanent residents for at least 15 to 20 years may be eligible to take the citizenship test in their native language, and persons with certain medical conditions may be exempt from parts of the test.
