Cardiac Stress Test

at Chinatown Cardiology · New York

Details.

A diagnostic procedure that measures the heart's ability to respond to controlled external stress. Heart stimulation is provided through treadmill exercise or intravenous vasodilators such as adenosine or dobutamine when exercise is not possible. The test compares coronary circulation at rest and during maximum exercise capacity, and patients are monitored by healthcare personnel throughout. Before the test, wear comfortable exercise clothing and shoes, fast for at least 3 hours while drinking only water, avoid coffee and other caffeinated drinks for at least 24 hours, and discuss any medication changes with your doctor. During the test, an EKG and blood pressure are monitored. Afterward, normal activities may be resumed.
