Cardiac Ablation

at Melbourne Heart Care · Melbourne

Details.

Radiofrequency catheter ablation is a minimally invasive procedure designed to treat arrhythmias by pinpointing and correcting abnormal electrical signals in the heart. It is commonly used for supraventricular tachycardias, including atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, atrial tachycardia, AV nodal reentrant tachycardia and AV reentrant tachycardia. The procedure may be performed as a day procedure or may require an overnight hospital stay. Pre-procedure instructions cover medications, fasting and what to bring. Following the procedure, patients are monitored in recovery and provided with post-operative instructions, including avoiding heavy lifting or exercise for a period of time and taking aspirin to help prevent blood clots.
