A school-age nature learning activity in which children visit an outdoor area or local park with trees, use bird guides or free identification apps to learn about birds, quietly observe and listen for birds, and record sightings in a notebook by tallying, drawing, or listing bird types. Includes guidance for parents and child care providers, with optional use of a camera. Children learn birdwatching vocabulary, self-regulation, life science, informational text skills, and motor skills.
