A minimally invasive, percutaneous procedure for a select group of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy patients with refractory or persistent symptoms. It involves a slow injection of 98 percent alcohol via catheter into a carefully selected artery supplying the overgrown tissue in the enlarged septum. Patients are monitored in the ICU for two days with a temporary pacemaker, followed by minimal physical activity restrictions for two to four weeks and follow-up echocardiograms in three to six months.
