Details.
A first gynecologic visit for girls typically occurs between ages 13 and 15. The visit may include questions, a comprehensive exam, breast exam, and external evaluation of the genitalia. A pelvic exam is generally deferred until needed for symptoms such as irregular menstrual bleeding or pelvic pain. Visits can address general health, periods, sexuality, relationships, birth control, sexually transmitted diseases, emotional issues, nutrition, and substance use. HPV vaccination may also be discussed.
