Evaluation of abnormal uterine bleeding includes a medical history review, symptom assessment, pelvic exam with Pap test, and may include pregnancy, blood, thyroid, hormone, pelvic ultrasound, or endometrial biopsy testing. A hysteroscopic exam may also be recommended to view the inside of the uterus. Treatment depends on the cause and may include hormone treatments, birth control, medications, or minimally invasive surgery.
