Details.
Evaluation of abnormal uterine bleeding includes a medical history review, symptom questions, pelvic exam, and Pap test. Additional testing may include pregnancy, blood, thyroid, hormone, pelvic ultrasound, or endometrial biopsy. A hysteroscopic exam may also be recommended to examine the inside of the uterus. Treatment depends on the cause and may include hormone treatments, progestin shots or implants, intrauterine devices, anti-inflammatory medicines, or minimally invasive surgery.
