Includes a thorough assessment of musculoskeletal dysfunction and neuromuscular control of the abdominals, pelvic floor, and back muscles, followed by a personalized treatment plan. Treatment may include lifestyle and posture modifications, manual therapy to the diaphragm, thoracic cage and abdominal viscera, core strengthening, taping techniques, self diaphragm release, self abdominal massage, breathing techniques, global relaxation strategies, biofeedback, and patient education on toileting habits and avoiding muscle clenching and straining. Referral to a dietician or gastrointestinal provider may be provided when appropriate. Take-home tools support continued muscle lengthening and strengthening at home.
