Removal of uterine fibroids through a horizontal or vertical abdominal incision using traditional surgical instruments. Most patients receive general anesthesia and are hospitalized for two nights. Full recovery is expected in 4-6 weeks. A mini-laparotomy may be possible in thin patients without significant scarring.
