Childcare support

Learners aged 20 or older with an income below £27,000 per year, or who are part of a family with a combined income below £35,000 per year, may be eligible for childcare support. Free college meals

Learners aged 16 to 18, or aged 19 to 25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan, may be eligible for free college meals on timetabled days if they or their guardians receive qualifying benefits or meet the stated income criteria. Qualifying support includes Income Support, income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance, support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999, the guaranteed element of State Pension Credit, Child Tax Credit with annual gross income up to £16,190, or Universal Credit with net earnings not exceeding the equivalent of £7,400 per year.

16 to 19 Discretionary Bursary

Learners aged between 16 and 19, or aged 19 to 25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan, may be eligible for a discretionary bursary if their household income is up to £35,000 and they have financial need. Bursaries are means-tested and intended to support travel, books, equipment, exam fees and other essential course-related costs. The amount depends on educational financial need. Travel support is based on the distance travelled to the centre of study and takes TfL and other transport provider discount schemes into account.

Course fee instalment plan

If you pay your course fees yourself, you may be eligible to pay in instalments: 25% of the total course fees at enrolment, with the balance spread equally across five monthly instalments of 15% each on the first of consecutive months. For eligible short courses, all fees must be paid at least one month before the course end date.

Free Level 3 courses for eligible learners

Learners aged 19 to 23 without a full Level 3 qualification may be able to study a Level 3 course for free, subject to checks on prior qualifications and receipt of JSA, ESA, Universal Credit, Income Support or a low wage. Some Level 3 courses may also be free for learners aged 24 or older without a Level 3 qualification who are unemployed or earning a low wage, and for London residents aged 19 to 23 who are working and earning a low wage. Two-year Extended Diplomas, A Levels and Access to HE Diplomas are excluded. Current evidence of benefits or low wages is required.

Free adult Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2 courses

Most Entry Level, Level 1 or Level 2 courses are free for adult learners aged 19 or older, regardless of age or income, as long as residency requirements are met. Proof of income or employment, or evidence of benefits if unemployed, will be checked at enrolment.

Free courses for learners aged 16 to 18

If you are aged 16 to 18 on 31 August in the year you are looking to study a further education course with the college and meet the residency requirements, your course will be free. You may also be asked to pay for exam or coursework resits, forgotten or lost college ID cards and educational visits.
