The Zehnt-Stipendium provides intellectual and financial support for practice-relevant doctoral projects in tax law. Up to 10 scholarship holders receive intellectual support, including guidance on their research topic, opportunities for internships and academic work, possible participation in relevant mandates, an optional oral examination simulation, and access to Zehnt-Akademie events. Internships and academic work are voluntary and separately paid. Up to 3 scholarship holders also receive financial support towards dissertation printing costs, with total funding of up to €3,000, a maximum of €2,000 per person, and a minimum of €500. The grant is paid after conclusion of the publishing contract. Applicants must have passed their first state examination with above-average results and be completing a doctorate related to tax law or tax criminal law. The dissertation must be at exposé stage with a supervisor's commitment, or be an ongoing doctoral project that was not completed at the time of application. Selection is based on academic value, practical relevance, and personal qualifications. Applications close on 31 May 2027. Selected applicants are invited to the SMS Doctoral Candidates' Day on 24 September 2027. Required travel expenses are covered and necessary hotel accommodation is arranged by the firm.
