PMI centres operate on the principle of free access and respect for anonymity. Services include pregnancy consultations, first trimester interviews, prescriptions for additional examinations when needed, referral for the first ultrasound, maternity selection support, pre and postnatal support, childbirth preparation sessions at some centres, home visits and home assistance when required. For children under 6, services include medical consultations, growth and development monitoring, vaccinations, childcare advice, home visits when necessary, weighing and childcare advice at most centres without an appointment, and access to a PMI psychologist when needed. The health assessment provided at nursery school costs nothing and is funded by the Department.
