Newton Prep is seeking an inspiring, committed and highly skilled Visiting Music Teacher to teach trumpet in its well-resourced Music Department. The role involves providing outstanding one-to-one teaching tailored to pupils aged 7 to 13, inspiring high-quality musical performance, assessing progress, giving feedback, encouraging participation in recitals and concerts, entering pupils for examinations where appropriate, and communicating professionally with parents. The successful candidate should have a relevant degree-level music qualification, experience teaching trumpet and young pupils, an inspiring approach that is not based solely on examination repertoire, a sound understanding of technique, performing experience, excellent communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team, and an approachable manner. Safeguarding checks, including an Enhanced DBS and Barred List check, are required. VMTs are self-employed, invoice parents directly each term, set their own individual lesson rates, and must have public liability insurance. The role may also include group coaching and accompanying concerts and pupils.
