Teen volunteers in grades 8 to 12 and under age 18 help return books, movies, and other materials to the shelves. Shelving requires strong attention to detail, strong alphabetization skills, and the ability to learn the Dewey Decimal system and library-specific collection labels. Main Library shelvers are assigned to specific areas, while branch shelvers work throughout their library. Shelvers commit to a regular schedule within a set time window and report to their site supervisor. Volunteer hours are subject to availability, and submitting an application does not guarantee a volunteer position or a specified number of hours.
