Respiratory therapists in New Jersey are licensed and regulated by the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, State Board of Respiratory Care. Respiratory care must be practiced under the direct supervision of a physician. Licensure requires completion of a CoARC-accredited respiratory therapy program, passing the NBRC Certified Respiratory Therapist examination, and submitting an application to the State Board of Respiratory Care. Many employers seek the advanced Registered Respiratory Therapist credential.
