People with related qualifications may enter work in children's day care centres. The usual requirements are an intermediate secondary school qualification, a completed three-year pedagogical specialist school programme and six months of relevant professional experience. People whose first language is not German are generally expected to demonstrate German at C1 level. Depending on their qualification, they complete a basic course and, where required, an advanced course for entry into the educator profession.
