1KBW offers twelve-month pupillages commencing in October 2027, divided between different supervisors. Pupils attend court with members of chambers, undertake work including skeleton arguments, opinions and schedules of assets, and receive regular assessments and feedback. The work covers matrimonial finance, private and public law children cases, leave to remove, intractable contact disputes and child abduction. Chambers provides in-house advocacy training, mock hearings and seminars led by Silks and senior members. Applicants should have the ability, motivation and temperament to succeed at the Family Bar, be articulate and persuasive, have good academic qualifications including a 2:1 honours degree or above, and demonstrate an interest in family law. Candidates are assessed for intellectual ability, advocacy skills, relevant experience and potential. Each pupil receives a tax-free grant of £50,000 plus expenses during the first six months and retains income earned during the second six months.
