The role involves writing, obtaining and advising clients about patents, with work spanning patents, trademarks, copyright, designs and confidential information. FPA provides in-depth on-the-job coaching, formalised internal and external training, professional and personal development opportunities, a clear career trajectory to Principal, and formal annual performance appraisals. To qualify as a registered patent attorney, applicants need a science or engineering degree, more than one year of on-the-job training with a patent attorney, and completion of examinations in 9 prescribed subject groups.
