Provide in-hours and out-of-hours services in general and specialist ophthalmology, including night shifts. The role involves managing complicated cases, supervising and teaching junior registrars, and may include unsupervised cataract surgery and credentialing in laser retinopexies, peripheral iridotomies and tap and inject for endophthalmitis. Overseas trained applicants can gain experience in the Australian system and culture, learn from eminent ophthalmologists, participate in monthly teaching activities and receive support based on their circumstances and goals. Applicants have usually completed at least four years of ophthalmology residency and passed the RACE or equivalent. International and national police checks are required.
