Law clerk positions are filled as vacancies occur, with many positions filled through the annual Law Clerk Interview Days program. Candidates submit a cover letter, complete resume, law school transcript, and legal writing sample, preferably in the tax field, along with any Judge-specific requirements. Applicants must be law school graduates and must pass the bar within 14 months of appointment. Within 24 months of initial appointment and throughout service, law clerks must be admitted in good standing to practice before the highest court of a state or the District of Columbia. The Court is primarily interested in superior law school graduates who have completed Federal tax law courses and plan to practice in this specialized field. Appointments typically begin at the GS-11 level and include health insurance, life insurance, Federal Employee's Retirement System benefits, annual leave, and sick leave.
