Work in the CAT LAB supporting students and colleagues in the Bureau, Materials Hub, and Laser Lab. No prior knowledge is assumed, and extensive on-the-job training is provided. Lab Assistants work at least two four-hour shifts per week during semester time, with additional hours available where needed and mutually agreed. Shifts are arranged around coursework commitments. The role involves contributing, learning and sharing knowledge, working independently and taking responsibility, including responsibility for potentially hazardous technologies. Training is provided in the materials and technologies used throughout the Lab, as well as professional practices. There may also be opportunities to gain academic experience in teaching and learning, research and development, and knowledge exchange activities. Applicants should be committed, proactive, team-oriented and keen to learn. Everyone begins as a Trainee LA and can progress to LA and Senior LA roles.
