The American University of Rome is seeking an instructor to teach the 45-contact-hour course Sustainable Food Systems for the Master in Food Studies: Policies for Sustainable Production and Consumption. The course reviews conceptual and analytical frameworks for food system sustainability, trade-offs, sustainability practices across the Global North and Global South, food production, processing, consumption and disposal, and the roles of sectors, disciplines and stakeholders. It includes transferable project management skills and one or more field trips to regional or local food systems in Italy. Required qualifications are a Ph.D. in agricultural economics, development economics or economic geography, previous teaching experience, and excellent knowledge of English. Desirable qualifications include graduate-level teaching experience, teaching experience with North American programs, and professional experience in food and agricultural development policies or projects. Applicants must have the right to work in Italy. The course starts in January 2027 and will run during the spring semester from January to May, then during the fall semester from September to December.
