ACAH's commercial farm in Waugh Pocket operates over 60 acres of intensive horticulture cropping, including bananas, with growth into other tree crops and vegetables. The role reports to internal scientists, external consultants and the general manager. Duties include working with WHS procedures, writing machinery operation policies and procedures, managing fallow periods and crop rotations, carrying out post-harvest handling, implementing spray programmes, using scientific and technical testing equipment, soil testing and mapping, managing chemical use and integrated pest management, reporting noxious weeds and biosecurity outbreaks, operating and maintaining farm machinery, calibrating spray and planting equipment, repairing and maintaining laboratory equipment, interpreting MRL and microbial testing results, managing nutrient programmes, minimising produce deterioration, and maintaining HACCP, Freshcare 4.0, SQF, GMP and GLP practices. Applicants must hold a Diploma of Production Horticulture or higher, have formal horticulture or agricultural experience, good English skills and computer literacy, and be willing to complete a pre-placement theoretical skills assessment. Ag/VET chemicals, Aus-Chem and First Aid Level II competencies are required. Applicants must hold an Australian driver's licence or equivalent. A forklift licence is desirable but not mandatory.
