An opportunity for an emerging Greater Manchester based theatre director to join the Royal Exchange Theatre as Assistant Director to Joshua Roche on The Importance of Being Earnest. Duties include assisting the Director, researching the production, observing rehearsals, contributing to discussions and production meetings, leading warm-ups, assisting with rehearsal documentation, giving feedback, noting the show after press night, and assisting during technical rehearsals and previews. The placement also includes work with Local Exchange and the Den Festival in Rochdale, opportunities to engage with communities and non-professional artists, access to different theatre departments, regular one-to-one meetings, and the opportunity to workshop an idea with two professional actors. Applicants should demonstrate commitment to directing, passion for theatre making, some professional or fringe directing experience, an interest in Oscar Wilde and The Importance of Being Earnest, collaborative skills, an interest in community engagement, and a connection to Greater Manchester. Candidates must be over 18. The scheme runs from 6 May to 31 August 2024, with normal working hours of 10am to 6pm plus evening and weekend work when required. The successful candidate will receive a fully inclusive bursary of £6,000, paid in three instalments.
