The Heavyweight Gallery seeks an intern to handle administrative and minor design work. Responsibilities include assisting with gallery openings, launch parties and special events, preparing art and exhibition installations, maintaining art and retail inventories, managing retail sales, researching sponsorships, drafting and distributing press and marketing materials, and creating advertisements. Requirements include computer skills, basic design skills, knowledge of Quark XPress, Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Word and Excel, effective communication, excellent writing, multitasking, self-discipline, resourcefulness, and a strong interest in art, design and galleries. Basic web design knowledge is ideal but not required. The role offers insight into the daily functions of a growing gallery, opportunities to work with established artists and graphic designers, and interaction with clients, sponsors and media. Preferred availability is Wednesday to Sunday, approximately 15 hours per week. This is an unpaid internship with a daily lunch stipend, and class credit is available.
