UCL, in collaboration with the UK National Physical Laboratory and Mediso Medical Imaging Systems, is offering a PhD studentship focused on improving clinical functional imaging through joint PET, SPECT and CT reconstruction. The project involves method development, phantom experiments at UCL and NPL, use of patient data from theragnostic clinical studies, algorithm implementation in an open source image reconstruction framework, and evaluation through mathematical analysis, numerical simulations and clinical impact. The student will be based at the UCL Bloomsbury Campus or the Institute of Nuclear Medicine at University College Hospital and must spend at least three months at the NPL Teddington Campus. Eligibility follows standard research council rules. Candidates must normally hold at least an upper second-class degree or equivalent in a relevant subject such as physics, biomedical engineering, computer science or applied mathematics. A relevant Master's degree and additional research experience are advantageous. The funding covers an annual stipend of around £19,000, tuition fees at the UK national or resident rate, and travel, conference and consumable costs.
