Marine Engineers are primarily responsible for the safe mechanical operation of a vessel. They operate and maintain the vessel's structure, machinery and equipment to ensure it functions safely and effectively at all times. Minimum qualifications include a Certificate of Competency as Watchkeeper (Unlimited), medical certification, and Security Awareness training or endorsements. Engineer Officers working on tanker projects require Advanced Oil tanker endorsements. Confined Space training is desirable.
