Work in another person's home providing childcare, care for a sick or elderly person, housekeeping chores, or other domestic duties. Under New York State labor law, domestic workers must be paid at least the minimum wage, receive overtime pay after 40 hours per week, or after 44 hours if they live in their employer's home, receive one day of rest per week or overtime pay for working that day, and receive at least three paid days off after one year with the same employer. Workers employed at least 40 hours per week are also covered by workers' compensation and disability benefits insurance. The law does not cover casual workers, such as part-time babysitters, or relatives of employers or care recipients.
