Compliance Week seeks a staff writer for a small editorial team covering compliance news in financial services, including banking, securities, fintechs and insurance. The role follows and reports on trends and enforcement actions affecting governance, risk and compliance, covering organizations including the U.S. President, Congress, the U.S. Treasury, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice. Core subject areas include anti-money laundering, sanctions compliance, third-party risk management, consumer protection and digital assets. Familiarity with AI governance frameworks, the EU AI Act and model risk management guidance is a plus. Duties include pitching stories weekly, writing 3 to 4 news and feature stories per week, producing 2 to 4 feature stories per month, developing industry sources, contributing to special projects, meeting sources online and in person, helping plan panels and secure speakers, and attending 3 to 4 branded events per year. Qualifications include strong communication, editing and writing skills, effective time management, collaboration skills, the ability to develop sources, strong writing ability and knowledge of AP style. The position is fully remote, although the organization is based in Boston. A bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years of journalism experience, preferably in business journalism, are required.
