The Office of Bar Counsel investigates and prosecutes ethical misconduct by Massachusetts attorneys, educates attorneys on the Rules of Professional Conduct, and seeks an experienced attorney to help protect the public and promote professionalism. The role investigates allegations through witness interviews, subpoenas, and collection of relevant information; analyzes potential violations of the Massachusetts Rules of Professional Conduct; prepares charging memoranda, petitions, stipulations, affidavits, admonitions, and diversion agreements; participates in discovery, pre-hearing conferences, motions, hearings, and post-hearing submissions; writes appellate briefs and presents oral arguments; provides informal ethical opinions to Massachusetts lawyers; represents Bar Counsel in reinstatement proceedings; makes presentations at professional events; participates in office initiatives; and supervises investigative and secretarial staff. Applicants must be admitted to practice and in good standing in Massachusetts, have at least five years of legal practice including trial and appellate experience, and demonstrate litigation, oral advocacy, legal writing, communication, interpersonal, staff management, and diversity, equity, and inclusion skills. Knowledge of bar discipline and professional conduct rules is preferred. Applications were requested by November 30, 2024.
