Details.

Classes and workshops help people with diabetes be more proactive in controlling their condition. Topics include diabetes types, causes, effects and treatment goals; exercise, diet, meal planning, weight management and hypoglycemia prevention; insulin or oral diabetes therapy; blood glucose and urine ketone testing; complication prevention and management; and emotional adjustment to living with diabetes. In-depth workshops are offered for adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, with groups organized by diabetes type and insulin use. The insulin therapy workshop is three and a half days, and the oral diabetes medication course is two days. Individual counseling and insulin pump instruction are also available. Any doctor or health care facility can refer patients, or people may call directly to enter the program. Some insurance companies require authorization from a primary care provider.
